The most photographed dune in the Namib, and a classic sunrise climb.
Dune 45 takes its name from its position 45 kilometres along the road from Sesriem to Sossusvlei. Its star shape and sharp, curving ridge make it one of the most photographed dunes in the world, especially in the early morning light.
The climb along the ridge takes around 30 to 45 minutes and is manageable for most people, with sweeping views over the dune fields from the top. It stands right beside the road, so it is easy to combine with Deadvlei and Sossusvlei on the same morning.
