One of Africa's largest private reserves, with dunes, mountains and dark skies.
The NamibRand Nature Reserve covers more than 200,000 hectares south of Sossusvlei. It was created by bringing former livestock farms together and returning them to the wild, and its landscapes range from red dunes and grass plains to rugged mountains, with oryx, springbok and zebra roaming freely.
Only a handful of lodges operate here, so it feels empty and unspoilt. It was declared Africa's first International Dark Sky Reserve, and it is a peaceful base for day trips to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei.
