One of the tallest dunes in the Sossusvlei area, with Deadvlei at its foot.
Big Daddy rises about 325 metres above Deadvlei, making it one of the highest dunes in the Sossusvlei area. The climb along its sandy crest takes most people between one and two hours, and the view from the top across the red dune sea is worth every step.
The quickest way down is straight down the steep face into Deadvlei, a run through soft sand that ends among the dead camel thorn trees. Start early: the sand gets very hot by late morning, and you will need water, a hat and good shoes.
