Experience the best of this stunning country alongside like-minded travelers in 16 days. The tour begins in Windhoek and heads southwest to Sossusvlei. According to the Bushmen, the sand dunes here are where the first stars and galaxies formed. This vast sea of red dunes, sun-bleached pans, and ancient blackened trees is a photographer’s dream and a source of inspiration for artists, Instagrammers, and bloggers from around the globe. Sossusvlei, famous for having the highest dunes in the world, is followed by a journey northwest to the coastal town of Swakopmund, where you'll spend two nights. Nestled in rolling fog banks along the Atlantic coastline, this quaint German town provides a refreshing ocean breeze and a chance to relax after the desert. It’s a hub for adventure and exploration, making it a favorite stop on the itinerary. From Swakopmund, the tour moves to Damaraland, a region often overlooked by travelers with limited time. This rugged landscape is home to desert-adapted elephants, lions, rhinos, and oryx, among other wildlife, and offers a unique, majestic beauty. Next, you’ll head to Etosha National Park, Namibia’s oldest and largest national park, and the country’s most popular tourist destination. It promises an unparalleled safari experience with incredible wildlife viewing. The final stop is the impressive Okonjima Nature Reserve, where you’ll stay overnight and visit the AfriCat Foundation. Namibia places a strong emphasis on conservation, and Okonjima has played a key role in this journey.
Self-drive is the way most of our guests see Namibia. The roads are quiet and well kept, the distances are honest, and we plan each day so that you arrive in daylight with time for a sundowner. Every lodge is booked and every transfer arranged; the driving is yours.
May to October is the classic season: dry, cool at night, and the best game viewing in Etosha as the waterholes draw everything in. Desert mornings can be close to freezing in June and July, so pack a warm layer for early starts. November to April is the green season, hot inland with short afternoon storms that clear quickly, newborn antelope and, in a good year, water on the pan. Swakopmund is cool and often foggy in the mornings whatever the month; the fog burns off by late morning.

The route
The loop runs from Windhoek through Kalahari, Fish River Canyon, Luderitz, Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland, Etosha South and Okonjima and back to Windhoek. Most travelling days are four to five hours of driving with stops, and we plan each leg so that you arrive in daylight. Roads are gravel between the desert and the coast and in Damaraland, tar elsewhere, and none of it needs low range: the 4x4 is for comfort and clearance, and for the sand road into Sossusvlei. Roughly 2800 km in all.
