Lions that live in the dry river valleys and dunes of Namibia's far north-west.
In the Kunene region and along the northern Skeleton Coast, a small population of lions has adapted to one of the harshest places any big cat lives. They range across huge territories, follow the dry rivers such as the Hoanib and Hoarusib, and have even been seen hunting on the beach.
Sightings are never guaranteed, which makes each one special. The best chance is a stay at a camp in the Hoanib or Hoarusib valleys, where the guides know the area and follow the work of the researchers who monitor the lions.
