Shipwreck Lodge

Castaway luxury on the Skeleton Coast.

About

Shipwreck Lodge at a glance

Shipwreck Lodge stands in the dunes of the Skeleton Coast National Park, between the Hoarusib and Hoanib rivers and a short way inland from the Atlantic. Its ten cabins are built to look like the shipwrecks that line this coast.

Drives to the coast, the dunes and the dry riverbeds, where desert-adapted lion, brown hyena and elephant sometimes appear, fill the days, along with walks, sandboarding and quad biking on the dunes.

Shipwreck cabins

Each of the ten cabins is built to look like one of the shipwrecks that line this coast. All are en suite and solar powered, with a wood-burning stove for the cool, misty mornings and evenings, and two can take extra beds for children. The lounge and restaurant have a wide wraparound deck with views across the sand to the Atlantic.

Experiences

Experiences at Shipwreck Lodge

What a day here can hold. We plan the activities around your stay and the rest of your route.

Nature drives

Explore the coast in 4x4 vehicles: shipwrecks, seal colonies, desert-adapted wildlife and the raw Atlantic shore.

Nature walks

Walk the dunes and gravel plains with a guide, reading the tracks and signs of desert life.

Quad biking

Ride guided quad bikes across the sweeping dunes of the Skeleton Coast.

Sandboarding

Slide down the tall dunes near the Atlantic on a sandboard.

Seal colony

Visit a Cape fur seal colony and watch the jackals that patrol its edges.

Wildlife

Look for desert-adapted lion, brown hyena, jackal, oryx and the occasional elephant.

Architecture

Cabins washed up in the dunes

Strung along a dune that faces the distant Atlantic, the cabins look as though they have been washed up and wrecked. It is a design that suits this remote coast perfectly.

Conservation

Built to belong here

A stay here supports Natural Selection's conservation work in the Kunene region: moving black rhino to expand their range with Save the Rhino Trust, protecting the desert-dwelling giraffe of the north-west, and an early warning system for desert lions that reduces conflict with livestock farmers.
