Explore the channels and lagoons of the Okavango Delta by motorboat or mokoro.
The Okavango is one of the largest inland deltas in the world, a maze of papyrus-lined channels, lagoons and islands in the middle of the Kalahari. Seeing it from the water is essential: elephants wade across the channels, hippo surface in the lagoons and the birdlife is outstanding.
Water-based camps take you out by motorboat along the deeper channels, and by mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe that a local guide poles silently through the shallows. How much water there is depends on the annual flood, which peaks in the dry winter months.
