The Smoke that Thunders, on the Zambezi between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Victoria Falls is where the Zambezi River plunges over a basalt edge about 1.7 kilometres wide into a series of gorges on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. It is known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, the Smoke that Thunders, and in high water the spray can be seen from many kilometres away.
Walking the paths along the falls is the main event, and there is much more: helicopter flights, sunset cruises on the Zambezi, white-water rafting and day trips to Chobe. It links easily with Namibia, by air from Windhoek or by road through the Zambezi Region.
