Meet the Himba of the Kunene region, one of Namibia's most traditional peoples.
The Himba are semi-nomadic pastoralists who live in the remote Kunene region of north-western Namibia, moving with their cattle and goats between seasonal settlements. Himba women are known for covering their skin and hair with otjize, a mixture of butterfat and red ochre, and for their intricate hairstyles and jewellery.
We arrange visits with local guides who know the families, so the visit is respectful and the community benefits directly. The best places to meet the Himba are around Opuwo and in the remote valleys of Kaokoland, often combined with a stay on the Kunene River.
