From flamingos on the coast to the rare birds of the escarpment.
More than 650 bird species have been recorded in Namibia, including the dune lark, found nowhere else, and near-endemics such as the Herero chat, Rüppell's korhaan and Monteiro's hornbill. The variety of habitats, from desert and savannah to wetlands and the Atlantic coast, keeps a birder busy on every leg of a trip.
Highlights include the flamingos and waders of the Walvis Bay lagoon, the raptors and bustards of Etosha, and the Okavango Delta and Chobe River across the border. Many lodge guides are keen birders, and the green season from December to March brings migrant species and breeding plumage.
