Namibia's wild northern coastline of fog, shipwrecks and empty dunes.
The Skeleton Coast stretches along Namibia's northern Atlantic shore, where the cold Benguela Current meets the desert and thick fog rolls in from the sea. Its name comes from the whale bones and shipwrecks that once littered its beaches, and it remains one of the most remote and atmospheric places in Africa.
Much of it is a national park with restricted access, and the best way to see it is from a remote camp or on a fly-in safari. Days are spent exploring dune fields, seal colonies, shipwrecks and dry riverbeds where desert-adapted elephant and lion sometimes roam.
