Sandwich Harbour

Where towering dunes run straight into the Atlantic Ocean.

About

Sandwich Harbour at a glance

Sandwich Harbour lies south of Walvis Bay inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park, where huge dunes drop straight into the Atlantic. It is one of the most dramatic sights on the coast, and its lagoon and wetlands are an important feeding ground for flamingos, pelicans and other waterbirds.

The only way in is by 4x4 along the beach and through the dunes, timed around the tides, so we book it as a guided excursion from Walvis Bay or Swakopmund. Most tours include an exhilarating dune drive and a picnic lunch overlooking the ocean.
