Namibia's last great wilderness, home to the Himba and desert-adapted elephant.
Kaokoland is the remote north-western corner of Namibia, a vast area of mountains, dry river valleys and plains that stretches to the Kunene River on the Angolan border. There are few roads and fewer people, and a journey here feels like true exploration.
Desert-adapted elephant follow the riverbeds, the Himba live much as they have for generations, and the Kunene River brings a ribbon of green to the desert at places such as Epupa Falls. Most visitors fly in to a remote camp or travel with a guide, as the tracks are challenging.
