Itinerary
DAY 1: Kalahari
Welcome to the beautiful Namibia! As soon as you touch down, a dedicated representative will be eagerly awaiting your arrival, ready to extend a warm Namibian welcome. Let their genuine hospitality set the tone for your unforgettable tour.
Leaving Windhoek, on the first day you will travel into the largest sand mass on Earth, the Kalahari Desert. The Kalahari is a vast semi-desert of wind-blown sand held by a sparse mantle of thorn scrub making it the most extensive continuous stretch of sand covering 9 African countries.
Unlike other true deserts, the Kalahari does receive erratic rainfall, arguably meaning “thirstland” is a more fitting description. Lacking permanent surface water, the Kalahari is a challenging place to live except for those who have adapted to not only survive but flourish here. The Bushmen refer to it as the “Soul of the World”, an emotive description for this area! With its deep red dunes and endless grass plains interspersed with acacias and shrubs, it is still home to a surprisingly large amount of specially adapted wildlife. Enjoy the opportunity to experience the red dunes, wildlife, and plants, in this desert environment on an optional nature drive.
DAY 2: Fish River Canyon
Next your Namibia safari tour continues south through arid and extensive rocky plains. Visiting the unique Garas quiver tree forest where you are welcomed by quirky human-made sculptures of scrap metal which set a contrast to this serene, timeless space with Quiver trees and aloes nestled amongst huge dolerite boulders, stacked mysteriously, the area is also aptly referred to as “Giant’s Playground”. We continue to our lodge, situated in close vicinity to the Fish River Canyon. Here we can explore the area on foot or an optional guided nature drive in the later afternoon highlighting the Quiver trees, rugged landscape, and impressive sweeping rock formations.
DAY 3: Luderitz
Your morning starts on the edge of the Fish River Canyon where you will gaze into this magnificent geological phenomenon. The Fish River Canyon is located in the northern part of the Nama Karoo and is the second largest canyon on earth, featuring a gigantic ravine that measures in total about 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and in places almost 550 meters deep.
The Fish River is the longest interior river found in Namibia, but its current flow is just a drop compared with the immense volume of water that poured down its length in ages past.
Next your epic journey continues past the Naute dam, where you will enjoy a short stop at the Naute Kristall Cellar and Distillery, to taste some of their unique liquors (optional) or simply enjoy a delicious cup of coffee. Proceeding onwards you will head towards the coastal town of Loderitz. On the way to Loderitz, you and your group will stop at Garub, which is the viewing point for the Wild Horses of the Namib Desert.
DAY 4 & 5: Sossusvlei
Days 4 and 5 of your remarkable tour take you to the iconic Sossusvlei, a region that will leave you spellbound with its surreal landscapes. Brace yourself for an adventure like no other as you delve into the heart of this mesmerising desert wonderland.
Your exploration begins with an exhilarating ascent of the towering sand dunes that have come to define Sossusvlei. Feel the soft grains beneath your feet as you conquer these majestic giants, rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see. As the sun adorns the dunes in hues of gold, immerse yourself in the sheer beauty of this natural masterpiece.
Continuing your journey, you venture to the Sesriem Canyon, a hidden gem carved by the Tsauchab River. Traverse its narrow pathways, pausing to admire the towering cliffs that guard the tranquil oasis below. Let the serenity envelop you as you discover the secrets of this ancient geological marvel.
No visit to Sossusvlei would be complete without a pilgrimage to Deadvlei, an otherworldly landscape frozen in time. Witness the surreal sight of skeletal camel thorn trees rising from the cracked clay pan, juxtaposed against the backdrop of towering dunes. This hauntingly beautiful setting offers a photographer’s paradise and a humbling reminder of the ever-changing nature of our world.
DAY 6 & 7: Swakopmund
Leaving the astonishing dunes of Sossusvlei behind next you’ll arrive at the charming coastal town of Swakopmund; get ready for two days filled with endless possibilities and unforgettable experiences.
Swakopmund offers a thrilling fusion of adrenaline-pumping activities and serene coastal beauty. Dive into the excitement as you try your hand at sandboarding, a thrilling adventure that will have you gliding down towering dunes at exhilarating speeds. Alternatively, embark on a quad biking expedition, traversing the desert terrain with the wind in your hair and adrenaline coursing through your veins.
For a more tranquil experience, take a leisurely stroll along the pristine beaches, feeling the soft sand beneath your feet and breathing in the refreshing ocean breeze. The picturesque seaside promenades offers charming cafes and boutique shops, perfect for indulging in local delights and purchasing unique souvenirs.
A trip to nearby Walvis Bay is a included. Cruise along its idyllic lagoon, spotting playful dolphins, majestic pelicans, and perhaps even seals frolicking in the waters. Keep your camera ready as you witness the breathtaking sight of flocks of flamingos adorning the shoreline, creating a vivid splash of colour against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.
The opportunity to hop on board a catamaran/marine cruise is also offered as an optional activity.
DAY 8: END OF TOUR
As the final day of your extraordinary adventure dawns, you find yourself back in Windhoek, a city that holds the bittersweet promise of departure.
With hearts brimming with cherished memories, you bid farewell to the wondrous landscapes of Namibia.
